The Orunodoi Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative of the Government of Assam, was launched in 2020 to provide direct financial support to women from economically weaker households. Over the years, the scheme has evolved significantly, both in coverage and benefit amount, and today stands as one of Assam’s most impactful women-centric welfare programmes.
To ensure smooth implementation and to help beneficiaries access support, the Assam Government has put in place official helpline mechanisms and support systems for scheme-related assistance.
About the Orunodoi Scheme
Orunodoi was introduced as a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, ensuring that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries directly in their bank accounts. What started as a monthly assistance of ₹850 has now increased to ₹1,250 per beneficiary family, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to social welfare and inclusive growth.
The scheme currently supports over 38 lakh women beneficiaries across Assam, making it one of the largest women-focused welfare initiatives in the state.
Role of Orunodoi in Women’s Empowerment
Speaking from the BJP Assam Pradesh Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, party spokesperson Dr Zafreen Mehjabin described Orunodoi as a transformative programme that has reshaped women’s role in Assam’s socio-economic structure.
According to her statement:
- Orunodoi has helped women gain confidence, dignity, and financial independence
- Beneficiaries are now active decision-makers within their households
- Many women have invested their monthly assistance in small livelihood activities, creating a quiet but meaningful grassroots economic impact
She highlighted that Orunodoi is not just financial support, but a system that enables long-term empowerment and opportunity creation.
Orunodoi 3.0: Latest Phase of the Scheme
The Orunodoi 3.0 phase is scheduled to be formally launched on October 7 by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Veterinary College Ground, Khanapara, Guwahati.
Key highlights of Orunodoi 3.0:
- Monthly benefit of ₹1,250
- Coverage of more than 38 lakh families
- Implementation through a polling booth-level framework
- Rollout across 25,000 polling stations simultaneously
- Presence of elected representatives, social workers, and local officials
This structured approach ensures that no eligible household is left out, strengthening last-mile delivery.
Orunodoi Helpline Number: How to Get Assistance

Government’s Broader Welfare Vision
On the same day, the Assam Government also unveiled the Shraddhanjali Scheme at Janata Bhawan, Dispur, another citizen-centric initiative focused on compassion and dignity. This scheme assists families in transporting the mortal remains of Assamese citizens who pass away outside the state.
This reflects the government’s broader governance philosophy – combining economic support with humane public service delivery.
Commitment of the Assam Government
The Assam Government, under the leadership of Hon’ble CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, continues to strengthen welfare delivery systems by:
- Expanding scheme coverage
- Improving transparency through DBT
- Ensuring grassroots-level implementation
- Providing official helpline and service portals
Orunodoi remains a central pillar of this welfare framework.
The Orunodoi Scheme is more than a financial assistance programme—it is a symbol of inclusive governance and women-led development in Assam. With the launch of Orunodoi 3.0, expanded coverage, and official helpline support systems, the Government of Assam has reinforced its commitment to empowering women and strengthening social security.
Beneficiaries and citizens are strongly advised to rely only on official helpline numbers, government offices, and verified portals for accurate information and assistance related to the Orunodoi Scheme.
